Five fat turkeys stand in a line and survey their kingdom. They proudly fluff their feathers, prance, twist, and turn. They know Thanksgiving is coming, but they’re not worried. They have plans to run away long before the hungry farmer comes to look for them. And, of course, they do. When the barnyard gate is left open, the five fat turkeys do just as they had been planning all along, they run!
This story, told in verse, was inspired by a child’s finger play poem. It has been adapted, expanded, and formatted as read-aloud materials for the classroom.
A 3 Script Value Added Package: When you order this title, you receive both a Readers Theater Version and a Choral Speaking Version. Both are for Upper Primary/Lower Intermediate Readers and Voice Choirs.
In addition, you receive a Finger Play script for Primary students. 11 pages in length. (A teacher may decide to use one, some, or all five formatted verses - depending on age and reading ability of students).
RT Version includes an ALL chorus and features 5 to 10 readers, but may be expanded to include 25 readers in total. 7 pages in length. CHORAL Version is formatted for ALL, ALL GIRLS, and ALL BOYS. 6 pages in length.

A Sample From the CHORAL Version of "Run Turkey, Run!"
VERSE 1
ALL: Five fat turkeys stand in a line.
They wiggle their toes and are feeling fine.
ALL GIRLS: They look to the sky,
ALL BOYS: They look to the ground.
ALL: Then they twist and turn and prance around.
But they won't be prancing on Thanksgiving Day,
‘Cause when it comes, they’ll run away!
ALL CHORUS: Run turkey, run.
Thanksgiving is fun.
It’s fun for most,
But not for the roast!
(All speakers raise a hand above their heads and proceed with the following count down by folding thumb into palm as the letter 5 is spoken, then pulling down pointer finger as the letter 4 is spoken. This continues all the way down the line until the little finger is folded down as the letter 1 is spoken).
Five, four, three, two, one….
(Speakers have now formed a fist. They will thrust that fist into the air each time the word "run" is said in the following):
So, run turkey,
Run turkey,
RUN!

ALL BOYS: Five fancy turkeys stand in a row.
They ruffle and fluff their wings just so.
ALL GIRLS: They look to the left.
Then look to the right.
When they shake their feathers, they're quite a sight!

‘Cause when it comes, they’ll run away!
