THE HANUKKAH HOMECOMING
This is a Read and Draw Story. As the story is performed, lines and shapes are drawn on a large display pad or blackboard. At the end of the story, your artist(s) will have drawn a Hanukkah Menorah.
Two little mice go off for a walk in the woods. The sky grows dark and they lose their way. Each wants to find the path to home, but the large path in front of them looks too scary, dark, and gray. Instead they both run off in different directions trying to find other trails. Unfortunately, every other trail out of the woods seems to be a dead-end! Will the little mice ever find their way home? Of course they do – and they do it with the help of a Hanukkah Menorah!
NOTE: These scripts have been written for young readers. However, they are also excellent scripts for older readers to perform and read to an audience of children in the primary grades!

Five solo readers read-aloud this Readers Theater Hanukkah story told in verse. The script has been formatted so that you may use only the 5 solo readers OR you may add more solo readers as the story continues. The script also contains an ALL CHORUS. The chorus may be made up of as many readers as you wish. 6 pages of reading text, 17 pages including illustrated lines and shapes to be drawn during the reading.

This piece has been formatted for young children who do not yet read many words. It contains echoing, rephrasing, repetition, and rhyming. In the end, your students may not actually read the text because, with sufficient rehearsal, they will have memorized their parts before performance time. The text is divided between a TEACHER/NARRATOR (this job might be shared with one or two other adult or older readers, if wanted), ALL GIRLS, ALL BOYS, and an ALL CHORUS. 6 pages of reading text, 17 pages including illustrated lines and shapes to be drawn during the reading.
