LCP-104 YOU ARE NOT ALONE

A Large Cast Traditional Play written to involve a cast of 30 by Sue Russell.

--------------------------------

Here's a great play that can involve everyone in your class (or possibly a combination of 2 classes) to help promote anti-bullying.

Since the theme is important to all grade levels, this play would make a wonderful assembly program for the entire school.  This is a Traditional Play Script, but could also be read aloud as a Readers Theater Script, if desired.

This script identifies different types of bullying and suggests strategies for both prevention and dealing with the problems. It looks at the problem of bullying from 2 perspectives: That of the ‘bully’ and the ‘bullied’. The script examines why bullies behave as they do and what it feels like to be on the receiving end. The most important message is that we are all special, that we should like ourselves the way we are, and that if we ever find ourselves being bullied, we should get help and talk to someone – never bottle the feelings up inside and ‘put up’ with this kind of behavior.

Songs that may be included in a production of this script, if desired:

1. We are the Champions – Queen
2. You’ve Got a Friend – James Turner
3. I like to boogie – T.Rex
4. You are not alone – Michael Jackson

TP-4 OVER-WORKED AND UNDERPAID: LABOUR UNREST IN FAIRYTALE LAND (Grades 6 – 10)

A Large Cast Traditional Play written to involve a cast of 25 by Christine Harvey.

In the play, “Overworked and Underpaid,” evil fairytale characters unionize in order to obtain equal rights, better working conditions, insurance, benefits, and higher wages. When the good fairytale characters are reluctant to comply with the evil characters’ requests, the wicked witch leads them in a strike. The evil characters eventually take the good characters hostage, forcing the king to seriously consider their proposals. This play teaches children how to deconstruct fairytales and also gives them some insight into socialism. It is a fun way for kids to study and understand labour disputes, unions, and the negotiating process.

Written by Christine Harvey and Jana van Geest

TP-7 THE POTATO CONSPIRACY (Grades 7 - 12)

A Large Cast Traditional Play written to involve a cast of 25 by Christine Harvey.

“The Potato Conspiracy” is about a covert group of alternative thinkers, known as The Rogue Cortex, who are trying to alert the world to the negative effects of continuous television watching. The Rogue Cortex has discovered that when people watch too much TV, they turn into potatoes. Although the broadcasting companies have been trying to hide the damaging side effects of their programming, The Rogue Cortex is determined to tell the public the truth. This play offers fun and original characters, a compelling plot, and a profound ending. The message conveyed in this script is very important, as the TV does seem to victimize many people in today’s society.

TP-9 WAX SNAPSHOTS OF CANADIAN HISTORY (For intermediate grades, especially 7 and 8)

A Large Cast Traditional Play written to involve a cast of 48 by Christine Harvey.

This play summarizes the grade seven and eight history curriculum in a fun and unique way. Mrs. Kerbockle has brought her class to a wax museum to study Canadian History. The tour guide shows the class the exhibits, but as soon as the class leaves to view the next display, the statues come to life. These statues even use authentic languages as they converse, including English, French, and German. Beginning with Native Culture and ending with World War I, it is quite obvious that this play is an invaluable educational resource. Make history fun for the children in your life!
