CH-32 THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING! (Primary Readers)
A Short Shared Reading Script Featuring Choral Reading and Read-Aloud Solo Parts.
This holiday script is based on an old English Nursery Rhyme“Christmas is Coming”:
Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat
Please to put a penny in the old man's hat;
If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do,
If you haven't got a ha'penny then God bless you!
The words of the nursery rhyme "Christmas is Coming" are historically associated with the traditional English Christmas celebration and the serving of geese for the Christmas feast. The meaning that was conveyed to children through this rhyme was that during this festive period, each should give to charity, according to their means.
In this modernized version, pennies, candy canes, and presents are suggested as good things to put "in the old man's hat". In the end, the readers find what they believe to be the perfect gift for the old man: their friendship and an invitation to Christmas dinner!
ALL GIRLS, ALL BOYS, 4 SOLO READING PARTS, ALL CHORUS. 4 pages in length.

How many of us really know what we want for Christmas? In this rhyming script, readers ponder this age-old dilemma and realize there are many choices to be made. For example:
Hannah Montana Acoustic Guitar,
Ipod, Little Superstar,
And a gift from Fisher Price,
At Christmas time that would be nice!
Pok-e-mon and Playmobile?
All on sale, and what a deal!
Trendy clothes or trendy shoes,
At Christmas time we have to choose!
But there is a surprise ending. The choice is PEACH ON EARTH (although one of the readers reminds the audience that a few toys would be nice too)!
