I-129 The Unicorn and the Young Arabian Oryx
The Arabian Oryx is known as "The Unicorn of the Desert" and there is even a legend about how that name came to be. This Readers Theater script takes the legend one step further by telling the tale of a young oryx who dreams of being a unicorn.
His mother can't imagine why her son would ever wish to have one horn instead of two. His father can't imagine why his son is acting like such a sissy and not preparing himself to "live in the real world". Besides, father points out, unicorns don't live in the real word. They are myths.
And, of course, this is where the plot thickens. In the nearby Kingdom of Unicorn-on-the-cob, a golden unicorn lives and works in the local palace for the king and queen. He works as the queen's personal coat rack. Each evening, the queen hangs her royal robe upon his golden horn. All goes well until The Grand Duchess of the Kingdom of Unicorn-ucopia arrives for a vist and, as all "Cornucopians" - she brings with her an abundance of everything.
How does the Arabian Oryx fit into all of this? You'll have to read the whole story to find out!
